Core Theological Beliefs
- The Trinity: Belief in one God revealed in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Salvation Through Jesus Christ: Salvation is a gift of God's grace, made possible through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
- Grace as Central: The UMC believes in grace that goes before us (prevenient), grace that justifies and forgives (justifying), and grace that continually transforms us (sanctifying).
- The Wesleyan Quadrilateral: When interpreting scripture and seeking theological truth, Methodists rely on four guidelines: Scripture (the primary authority), Tradition, Experience, and Reason.
- Sacraments: The UMC recognizes two primary sacraments: Holy Baptism (which signifies initiation into the Christian community) and Holy Communion (where Christ is present spiritually).
